rockett (5 out of 10 ) This script is as good as the film which just happens to be rubbish. I would not recommend it to anyone above the age of 36 months.
OJ (1 out of 10 ) My days rockett! I disagree totally! This is fit for no one below the age of 150! It is absolutely pants: no story line, no action, no romance, no anything. The worst movie of all time!
Stew (7 out of 10 ) Say what you want about the film but this script is a great example of meticulous research. It took years to complete because James Brooks wanted to make a script about the news that was as true to real life as possible but still make it entertaining. I liked the film myself and it was a great character driven piece. Overall I prefer Sports Night more than I do this movie but it's still a script that should be studied and admired. You will find many authors of script writing books refer to this screenplay in regards to how to create solid characters.
Dutch (9 out of 10 ) Rockett and OJ are idiots/jaded failed writers. This is a very good film.
Patty Sherman (10 out of 10 ) To say this film has no romance is nuts, when there is a triangle between William Hurt and Albert Brooks with Holly Hunter that is a romance in the beginnings with William Hurt and Holly Hunter, until Tom's unsavory nature throws it off and Albert Brooks her best friend who she loves, but only as a friend, so it is nuts to say there is no love story. Only someone who is so suckered in by the typical formula writing for a comedy romance would think there is no love story here. This is an intelligent story about the news business, about love, about attraction and about one's dreams not always coming true as they hope they would and then what do we do and how do we live without our dreams coming true? Do we settle or change the dreams or never settle? It addresses all of these questions about love and work. Holly Hunter was nominated for an Oscar for this film, as was William Hurt and Albert Brooks.
quix689 (10 out of 10 ) This is my favorite movie of all times. It's smart and funny, and the characters are interesting and relatable- though not all at the same time. Sure, sometimes they act petty and don't always do what they should or what we want them to do, but that's part of what makes them so great. These are real characters with real flaws. There might not be explosions or chase scenes, but it's still a fantastic script.
Casca7 (7 out of 10 ) The movie fails because the plot pivots on a piece of information that would not be a shock for anybody working in TV- namely that a journalist inserted a 'noddy' shot in later to press home a point. Yeah, I know he faked a tear, but that's hardly a shock either. Journalists are cold, hard, calculating creatures- the surprise is that colleagues bought it.
